Introducing the Katana60 - a more ergonomic layout for 60% boards.

I started working on the original Katana nearly a year and a half ago. Back then the main goal was to make a mechanical version of the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, with various improvements. While work on a splittable version, and even a tentable version continues, the project took a tangent when a friend offered to make me a wooden 60% case.

First attempt at cushioned leather wrist pads

Submitted by Baris Tosun on Sun, 01/22/2017 - 18:23

I made a start with my new cushioned leather wrist pads this weekend. I only wanted to trial the technique of shaping moist leather around the edges and it works rather well - it gives a really nice, smooth looking finish.

In doing so I realised that I didn't want to finish the leather around the Magic: the Gathering cards I use for the base. The leather looks and feels so nice that I must finish them off with the right materials.

End of a stressful week...

What a week I've had. Went live with a tricky Drupal 8 based website at work - I ran into more than the usual hiccups during development and going live. I'll spend the weekend reflecting on the causes and measures that can prevent them in the future. A certain amount of the issues arose from an unfamiliarity with composer. Those issues will iron themselves out as I become more familiar with it. It would also help a great deal to update our install script for Drupal 8 projects to utilise composer more heavily in the creation, development and maintenance of our Drupal 8 projects.

Katana keyboard update

Had a long conversation with Troy about the hinge keyboard design today. Having used the Katana for a while now, I've been thinking of more ways to improve the design.

We're still doing some research in the run up to an interest check/group buy. The most important developments are related to a PCB design. Having a PCB for the board will allow a much thinner build, something which will appeal to all potential buyers of the board - myself included.
